Colostomy Surgery Bowel diversion surgery, is the common name by which colostomy surgery is referred to . This procedure is either temporary or permanent depending on the nature of the patient’s disease . Individuals suffering from cancer of the colon, abnormality at birth, trauma, rectal cancer or Crohn’s disease are advised a colostomy. This is usually advised when the pain and discomfort of the patient is so severe and the only choice left is an ostomy.
